Ghost Wrists Mix Vol. 5: Noise Edition

September 12, 2009

I’ve been obsessed with noise lately; noise, more noise and experimental shape-shifting noise that oddly sounds like a some rancid bar fight in the dirtiest alley in Harlem, or something like that. I can’t help it – I just throw on my headphones and blast something that is disgustingly jittery and obscenely loud and clean my room.

There’s just something about a fuck load of noise and layering tones and pitches of  that is somewhat calming and exciting to me – the way it shifts and drones on and on is always delightful to hear.

That being said , I’ve dedicated Volume 5 entirely to noise of all sorts: drone, textured experimental, vocal, electronic, etc. You may have noticed a double track entry for Black Dice and well, I’m fucking in love with them now, so deal with it and hopefully you’ll love it too.

Expect LOTS of layering and drone in particular.

Basically, play this little beauty really loud to piss off prude neighbors/boyfriends/girlfriends/parents/roommates.

Track listing is as follows:

01. Untitled 3:38 – Wolf Eyes
02. Urination – Foot Village
03. Blue Bird – Terminal Curl
04. Trip Delay Dude – Black Dice
05. Analpegweinertowbuh – Coil Vs. Venetian Snares
06. Tteema – Tomutonttu
07. Puppy Grill – Volcano The Bear
08. View – Pretentious Assholes
09. Endless Happiness – Black Dice
Enjoy!

Amolvacy – HoHoKus (2006)

September 4, 2009

I picked HoHoKus on a whim from a record store earlier today PURELY based on it’s beautiful/mysterious packaging and I can tell you that I have not stopped listening to this beauty since.
Front:

Back:

Clear disc!!! So awesome.

If you can imagine Gang Gang Dance being slain by a savage neon tribe in the heart of a Romanian village while reciting spoken word in an almost Prinzhorn-School-of-Dance-manner, then you just might be chipping at the iceberg of mystery that is Amolvacy’s HoHoKus.

HoHoKus comes at you from all directions and pummels you with crashing symbols, handclaps and ritualistic matter-of-fact spoken word/chanting/shrieking/rambling.
I’m not really sure how I’ve never heard of these guys – they’re what the “noise scene” is all about today, yet they’ve not popped up anywhere I’ve looked – until now.

Track listing I think is as follows:

1. They All Played In Amusement Fields
2. Exorcism of Pity
3. The Nobleman’s Fever
4. Thus Spoken on the Cold Night of Thieves
5. Move Along The Concrete Is Warm
6. Fools Dream When They Should Dance
7. Lover Go From Hence
8. Yow Chi Cha Cha
9. Gargantu Pantagruel

Overall, 8/10.

TL:DR, you can experience Amolvacy’s HoHoKus here.

Black And White Hillbilly Music

August 8, 2009

Moonshine, cherry pie,  sexism, segregation and the devil – what isn’t there to love about the 1920s-1930s ‘stars ‘n’ stripes’ hillbilly lifestyle?
To celebrate those good ol’ days where everything was much simpler  I’ve decided to provide a link to Black And White Hillbilly Music, a compilation of obscure ’20s/’30s jail time blues which is perfect for any harmonica loving geek or the plain ol’ interested.

You can expect some extraordinary heartfelt/wailing vocals and bluesy tunes. As far as lyrics go, you can expect cotton pickin’, the devil, eating pie and sly comments about ‘the wife’.
This set comes complete with those tasty vinyl pops and cracks with the odd yodeling here and there.
Great for a trip back in time to segregated America.
You can find this here.
Keep on sipping that moonshine!

Italians Do It Better – After Dark (2007) – Various Artists

August 2, 2009

Italians Do It Better – After Dark (2007) – Various Artists

I’ve never really been friends with any Italians.
Sure, their culture is…well, cultured. And their food – pasta-y and..pizza? Okay, I know nothing of Italy other than Vespas and spaghetti, but I do know that this compilation by Italians Do It Better featuring a whole bunch of cool, sultry sounding bands (Glass Candy, Farah, Professor Genius, Chromatics, Mirage to name a few).

You can be guaranteed phat-as-dough disco-esque beats fused with a general sexy, retro feel. Did I mention lots of electronic beeps and bops?
Be sure to check Karah‘s “Dancing Girls” – featuring some strange lyrics & lyrics that waft around you like cigarette smoke on a Milan sidewalk.
There, I made a connection between the two. It’s good.
You can get it here
Enjoy!
